Unless the Sheriff of Tate county can change the minds of some judges, i don't see that happening. It is MY UNDERSTANDING that open carry is legal as written in the law but has been thwarted by judges decisions many times over the years.

Where did you find that?

I don't see it in their "press releases". http://tatecountysheriff.com/press.php Hey Trip, you could email to their "contact us" email so they can bitch out whoever posted it.

A friend of mine from Tate county shared it on her Facebook.

As I always understood it, open carry is perfectly legal... As long as you have a concealed carry permit, because the firearm will always be "concealed in whole, or in part" as long as it's in a holster.

But he's saying it changes July 1st...

Apparently the wording in the Constitution of Mississippi suggests open carry w/o a permit should be legal. But no one wants to become the test case.

The state constitution does suggest that, but it HAS already been tested, several times. Hence the current ruling, permit required because a handgun is always partly concealed by whatever chosen carry method.

It gets discussed a good bit on this MS forum. That is a post from a firearms instructor regarding a question to the AG about it last year.
