Please go to an old thread "Training a toddler"

http://www.firearmstalk.com/forums/f55/training-toddler-53301/index4.html

on noise "All children under 12 on the range wear both ear plugs and ear muffs!

I wish these rules would have been in place when I went to the police range with my dad in the early 1950s.

The whole thread is only 36 posts and I feel it is good for everyone to know as the children are ours to love and protect!!!

I don't remember any ear protection on the police range in the 50s and I remember picking up brass which a young person should never do but no body knew better back then!

The more we learn and pass on the safer out sport will be!

Maybe Im wrong about the 22 being that loud , least its not loud to me , also its not like they are right beside me , i make them stand behind me and cover their ears AND we dont make an event out of it , usually 7-8 shots then its magically out of bullets .
When anything stops working it always needs batteries according to them , even the guns LOL

Its not the short term effects (those are troublesome though) but the long term effects on your kids hearing that I think is what is worrying people. How many of us former military types have long term hearing problems due to our exposure to the loud noises we dealt with over the years?

They'll swing back to the belief that they can make people...better. And I do not hold to that. So no more runnin'. I aim to misbehave.” Mal Reynolds Serenity/Firefly

Mine is not that bad but I've been extremely careful since my military days to protect my hearing from avoidable loud noises. Went to the "Monsters of Rock" tour in Tampa back in the late 80's spent the day wearing hearing protection, only took it off to hear the Scorpions and Van Halen play.
