That sounds like a good plan since I'm not even sure what a distributor is for.

Doesn't it take a minimum amount of gun training to be a mod here? :0

Easy there pal! All it takes is the ability to herd cats.

That was taking it easy. If it wasn't so late there would have been more responses. Some might have taken it personally, I saw the humor in it. Sorry winds, but you opened a door there.

Ohh boy that made me laugh on a monday morning .... Is that a sks ?
Dont worry winds , I went into the gun shop one time and started talking about my ariska ......... after many dumb looks I was corrected to arisaka there was no playing that one off , not at all .
Think im going for a second op on my back issues this week , I am soo tired of this mess , not helping matters I gotta pull a shoe horned 4.3 out of a pontoon boat this week , someone needs their ass kicked for aputting that motor in a pontoon with that little room . And all it needs is a stupid starter .
Cinder , what yr burban you cussin at ? Possible that distributor and or cam gear is worn out . If the dist gear will cut paper it all over with , I know the vortecs were terrible for that .

It's a Vortec but that wasn't the problem. It was pulling misfire codes. I was doing a tune up and someone had put the wrong size screws or tightened the screws down too tight and the little plastic ears on the sides of the distributor where the screws thread into were both cracked. I think I found the misfire problem since the cap was loose

Vortec tune up parts are not that cheap either . Last one I had kept throwing #3 misfire and I think the modis showed some erratic timing on idle but the truck totaled out before I could find it . Also I think they run plastic over steel timing gears and needless to say . they are chit .\
Ran into some issues with aftermarket caps and cross fire on the vortecs too .
Dont care much for the older vortecs anymore , lost 2 engines due to intake gaskets blowing out
I know on the mercruisers , I have run their ignition many times on hot rods and such , VERY VERY simple distributor and timing box that gives a total of XX degrees of timing depending on engine .

Hey, I bet there are a lot of things winds knows about that you don't know anything about. She's just trying to learn.
