Those chaps are lifesavers. It is not just dumb, but plain freaking stupid to use a chainsaw without them. I require all of my employees to wear chaps, gloves, eye protection and ear protection and I replace them often. $50 for a pair of chaps every couple of months is a lot easier to stomach than somebody losing a leg. Hell, around here there aren't any brand new chains. They get used too quickly.

His got caught on the torque teeth on the saw then the chain bit in and pulled through on its own cuz the throttle stuck open. Ya they save alot of people but I wont wear em.....then again I don't let the chain get that close to my body.

What the hell are "torque teeth"?

I have a few Stihl 261 pro saws with 16" bars on them and 8-tooth drivers. Faster chain speed that way. Also have a couple of Husky Ranchers, but they don't get much use- don't care for them. My son has a Stihl 290 (I think) as his first saw, he got it last year when he was 16. We go through saws pretty regular. I have found that too big of a saw is foolish, makes for way more work than is necessary. With that 261 Pro I can put the 20" bar it came with on for bigger jobs and I have felled 40"+ size trees with it. You just have to know how to approach it.

I enjoy my dads old stihl 36. It's got a 20" bar I IIRC. Lightweight, fast and easy to use.
