That's your decision. If its your only centerfire pistol, probably not. The Sks is a good all around, can do rifle, and a rifle can do a lot more than a pistol. I probably would have bought it if I had lots of play money.

I'd rather have the Sks then.

It's worth more sitting around than it is getting a job.

There is a black charger sitting across the street looking at me .......
Think its time to sneak out the back and head to the lake

Only argument i have on the sks is for people to leave them stock . I have bought alot of legos for mine and the guns to me , dont take to change to well and are far more reliable in factory form . I would highly recommend de crowning the firing pin hole on the bolt face and doing the spring loaded firing pin conversion .
All mine have factory mags and stocks , I even gave away my scoped action cover i bought for it . I shot tapco 20 rn out of one of mine and took it out and gave it to the guy shooting with me .

Trip.. Get a 1952 or earlier one, It will have your chrome bore and the spring loaded firing pin... I agree with MM, Simonov did great designing the SKS, and it should be kept as-is.. I had one I turned into a "mini-Dragunov", It looked "badass", but it was heavy, and at the end of the day its still just a SKS...

Be warned the SKS is a gateway gun, before you know it you will have a case full of Mosins, Arisakas, and others!! Oh, the humanity!!!

yep.... '53 is when the free-floating pins were started. You may be able to find a '53 with the springy firing pin, but you will have to look. also the gas block is different, the early ones are more blocky, and the newer ones have more contour....
(mines a '53 but has all the pre-'53 features)
