The real funny thing is...

You didn't even seem to think to ask why the hell I had a muzzleloader in the bathroom with me! Yes, I kept it there, just for such circumstances. Never know when your gonna have to drop a deer and a deuce at the same time.

The worst part? I've only ever killed a deer with a truck.

You missed the deer?

You're going to have to change that.

I used to run targets when I was a kid for the local gun club. Small bore silhouette mostly.

The first targets were small, chickens I think, but they were steel and at 25 yards. On more than ONE occasion there was a range delay because a .22lr round struck a steel target at 25 yards and shot back into the line of fire.

On the worst occasion the "returning" round struck a range bag back behind the shooter, but next to Range Officer and caused some alarm, though no one was ever harmed or hurt.

I can attest to the fact that flat on shooting of a steel target may not be the "best" choice of those available.

When I was younger,a friend and I was shooting .22s at and old clay pit that was uses as a dump.I shot a brass coupling on a water hose and the round ricocheted back and hit me in the temple. Our didn't break the skin but needless to say I didn't shoot at that anymore.

Well, I was gonna but didn't get back here soon enough to ask.

So, were you trying to shoot the deer and missed or what? That is a pretty bad miss!

Wasn't such a bad miss, I was aiming for the vitals, and because of the angle I only really missed by about 4 inches low. I would have to draw a sketch to really help you understand, but I'll try to explain...

The deer was on the other side of a large claw foot tub, the tub being almost perpendicular to my line of sight, with just a slight angle (maybe 20°). The deer walked up, almost broadside (in line with the tub), except with just enough angle to drink comfortably. It really was a great angle. Stomach cramps from some foul fowl...
I was trying to shoot right over the top edge of the tub for the vitals, and didn't compensate for the sudden spasm I had. I missed about 4-5 inches low and put a nice crack in that cast iron tub.

And the distance was around 75 yards.

I just figured you kept it there in case you wanted to shoot the $hit
