If we already had a .22, why did they make a .17? Will they go even smaller and make something like a .14 or a .10?

How about a .05 for when I want to hunt bugs.

Have you ever shot a .17 HMR?

My son has one, he uses it for rabbits. Head shots remove the skull and all of the contents from the head. Absolutely accurate and deadly. Much more efficient than the .22 LR.

Hate to break the news to you, but there have been a number of firearms smaller than .22. And some smaller than .17 May I introduce you to the .14 Alton Jones Rimfire? Been around a LONG time.

Name: 14 alton jones.jpg

Size: 5.1 KB

The .17 HMR shoots about like a laser, and at ranges well over that of .22LR. On a good day I can get 5 rd 100 yd groups of about 0.25 inches.

This is why the ice cream section at the grocery has more than 3 flavors. Find the flavor you like. I know P dog shooters that use a .14 centerfire wildcat, other folks love their Shiloh Sharps rifles in .45-120.

Isn't the Alton a 22 long necked down to .143 c3?

No, I have never shot a .17 HMR, but I have been thinking about eventually getting one.

What is the advantage of a round that small? Wouldn't a slight gust of wind throw it off target? It's cool though.

Yeah it does, I was lookin into getin one but all the reviews said its great till any wind blows. They even said a 5mph gust would blow it around.

Depending on the bullet and range it can blow them off anywheres from ⅛" to 6" easy. That's anywhere within 150 yards.
Edit-thats a 17hmr for clarification.
