It will stop filling sooner with the clothes in there. They use a pressure switch to detect water level. The clothes, even tho absorbent, displace some of the water that WOULD have gone in there.
Assume tub holds 30 gallons. If the clothes have a volume of 2 gallons, it will quit filling when 28 gallons of water have entered the tub.
