Look for a dipstick on the passenger side near the firewall(front of passenger comaprtment/rear of engine space) it'll say trans on it. Next question is what kind of car and what year? That will help alot

It can't be that difficult, can it? I've looked all over under the hood. I can't find it. Any hints?
The dipstick for the transmission fluid is generally toward the back of the engine by the firewall.

Depends on the manufacturer as to what colors they are

I may be remembering wrong Winds but I thought your car was a manual? In which case there is no dipstick to check the fluid, there is a plug in the side of the transmission you take that out and a little bit of fluid should run out if not you put your finger in there and see if it's up to level of that hole, if it isn't you need to add more gear oil.

This is correct. I hadn't thought of that fact

Is your transmission making noise?

Ps if it were an automatic the dipstick would probably be on the driver's side by the transmission because it's fwd, rear wheel drive 4x4 and awd are generally back by the firewall on the passenger side.

It is a manual......5 speed. Well, no dipstick. That would explain why I couldn't find one.

It is starting to shift hard. Here's my next question. Where the heck is the transmission? What does it look like? Am I going to have to get under the car to find the plug? I'm getting old and not so eager to go crawling around under my car anymore. Years ago I used to change my oil myself but I haven't done that in a loooong time.

Maybe I should just Google this?
