****ty situation. I'd recommend taking away any means she has of spending money, except for an emergency fund, until she finds another job.

Dick thing to do... and she's gonna make your life a living hell for it, but it's easier than digging yourself out of a debt hole, which is something I'm STILL doing myself, and been divorced a year.

Beats me, I can't even finish a cough drop without biting it.

yep, all the time. I don't really use chapstick though. This is something I'm actually a little weird about and I blame my mother. When I "use up" a tube of lotion or even toothpaste or anything like that, I cut it open and use what I couldn't squeeze out, you wouldn't believe how much stuff is still left in those tubes...

Why did she quit her job? I can not fathom spending $5,000. I am a cheap son of a gun.

Yes, once or twice. But I have tubes everywhere......work, car, purse, pocket, bathroom, nightstand, etc. And it has to be Burt's Bees.

I do that, too. First, I use those squeezy things on toothpaste, lotion, etc. And I, too, cut them open when I can't squeeze any more out of it. We're frugal.

said she was not respected and treated as well as other workers. did like the stress it put on her. often getting calls about work while not working.. i tried to tell her its fine to quit just have another job in place first... her spending includes everything.. gas, toys, food, clothes, diapers, just normal things through the last 8 months.

Cover your a$$. She may be getting ready to run off with some guy and leave you buried in debt.
Just speculating. My first wife would get a job, use it to justify running up big bills, then quit her job, leaving me to struggle with the payments. When the creditors called or knocked on the door, she'd say, "Oh, I don't know anything about that, my husband handles all the money".
One day she asked me if it would be OK if her boyfriend moved into the house with us. I said, "Sure, move him in, I'm gone". And I moved out and divorced her.

Oh, well that being an 8 month bill and with a baby involved too.... That's still pretty steep, but not just completely unreasonable.

I would say chop up the credit cards though. Worst mistake I ever made was spending money I didn't have. It's what I say about the federal government: "If even I, a semi uneducated redneck from the deep South, can figure out eventually that you should stop spending when you're out of money, then why can't these banker and lawyer types?"

Not trying to say you guys are doing it wrong and living on credit. My boss buys everything on his credit card (big purchases anyway), then pays it off every month, but keeps an active balance so his credit rating is through the roof. But I know I SCREWED UP when using credit cards. And that's putting it mildly.
