I knew some of the older scopes were pretty long, I had just not seen one quite like that. It looks almost new.

I wouldn't mind having one.

That's the Holmes scope. John mounted things the right way.

Someone makes reproduction scopes like that, can't remember who.

Unertl scope. http://unertl.alexweb.net/unertl1617.htm

Looks different because (a) adjustments to zero are EXTERNAL. Crosshairs are permanently centered- you adjust where the scope points. Spring is for shock absorber.

(b) These have a different optic design, can run much higher powers (have seen as high as 32X

So, I was in a barrel of crackers last week for lunch and they have "eggs in the basket" on their menu. http://www.crackerbarrel.com/restaurant/seasonal-offerings/

I wasn't worried for a moment...

It's also a LEFT-HANDED rifle -- you may have intuited that oddity.

We'd put the eggs in the pan. Take pieces of bread and use a water glass to press a hole in the center of them. Put the bread on the cooking egg, yolk in the hole. Cook. Flip.

Suppose you could cook like a round McMuffin Egg (putting bread in pan and breaking egg into hole) but you'd have to cook well enough that flipping it doesn't break the yolk -- not so easy!

The bread middles are toasted in the pan with butter and a drizzle of bacon grease too and served with the eggs.

SOOO good.
