My Dad's gun has a very nice wood stock right now. I don't know if it's walnut or what it is. I'll ask Bear. He saw it and I'm sure he knows what it is. I'll report back later.
Bear said it looked like Black Walnut. And it is in very good condition, too.

Another question.

What characteristics does a rifle need to be called a "mules leg"?

And is a "mules leg" different than a "mares leg"?

Are you guys tired of my questions yet?

Naw, good questions.

The Mare's Leg (or Mare's Laig) was a cut down lever action rifle carried as a pistol by Steve McQueen in the TV series Bounty Hunter. Recent copy put on the market has revived name.

Like a degree in Art History- interesting, mostly useless.

Mule's Leg is a term used by people with bad memories for the Mare's Leg carried by Steve McQueen.

Is there any competitive shooting for the very, VERY novice? I would love to give it a try. I'm looking for something new and different to do with my guns rather than go shoot at a target. I'm not very good but I want a little variety in my shooting. Any suggestions, anyone?

Take a friend shooting, and use one of the "bottles and cans" paper targets, or one of the poker sheets.

Not many here want to go shooting with me. I am not familiar with the targets you mentioned.

Hey, and Pagj, thanks for working nights. You keep me company here and I appreciate it.

Go to

Locate USPSA Clubs - USPSA - United States Practical Shooting Association

and check for a club near you. Nearly every USPSA/IPSC club will be VERY accomodating. You can start off as a raw novice and go as slow as you want (as long as it is not all day) on each stage. They will give you a new shooters briefing and pair you up with a mentor for the day. They can give you an idea what kind of equipment you will need.
