Ok, but i meant more like this...

Sling swivels on the bottom:

Swivels on the side:

Or like the M39 that has both:

The saddle ring and the side mounts are the same concept. Both suck drastically for equestrian combat but work awesomely for a combat trooper on foot to sling his weapon out of the way effectively.

I still dont understand...
Why would the muzzle hit the horse, and how does putting the sling mounts on the side help?
Why cant a foot soldier use the side swivels? Theres no "lock" to rub into the back on either the Mosin or Arisaka...

The bottom mount swivels on a horse will make the barrel did into the horse just like it will if you take a similarly hung rifle and hold it tightly sideways against your leg sling towards you. Make sense?

As to side mounts on more modern weapons. They use em that way now because they make weapons securely carried yet out of the way more efficient.

Well, when you're a member of other forums owned and run, supposedly, by the same person...
And the Administrator goes by Austin on those other forums...
Kinda like Clark Kent and Superman. Does he really think those damn nerdy glasses are fooling anyone? Only in the movies...

Back in the misty reaches of history, sling attachment points were in the bottom of the gun- because this big flintlock was on the top. When slung, lock was away from the body.

Newer weapons have this big magazine sticking out of the bottom, which digs into body, and rifles are starting to have alternate sling points.

Incidentally, I have 2 SKS rifles- one with sling on bottom, one on side.
