He died in an accident and his parents gave me his guitar as a keepsake. I'm willing to part with it after all these years. I just don't know what's it worth. I have long ago lost touch with the family. I also have it's original hardshell case that says "Fender" on it.
get it appraised, then hawk it on ebay to the highest bidder

Also, don't forget to put a little aside for that Henry .22. You deserve it.

Do NOT take the quick and easy route of going to a pawn shop.

A freakin MEN! I have had friends sell/donate guitars to a pawn shop; they walked funny for days. One buddy took it to a friend of his who worked at a pawn shop and was "shoo'd" out before anybody else could see the guitar (huge-ass Gibson epiphone), because the friend/worker knew they were limited to something like 50% of the "blue book" on guitars.

Also, if you do go through ebay, I highly suggest setting a reserve that is at least 50%-80% of the guitars actual value.

I would say 75ish %, along with appraisers documentation for proof of value.

Winds, I recently had to sell one of my guitars, (I keep running out of ammo ) and the guys are right...the pawn shop wil rip you off. It's a lousy time to try and sell anything right now but e-bay and craigslist at least give you options. If you have a Guitar Center or Sam Ash nearby, they will most likely give you an honest opinion on it's value. You'll probably have to pay someone for an actual appraisal so the 'big box' music stores might be your best bet. Also try a Mom and Pop music shop too, get a few opinions and it'll at least get you in the ballpark.

You can research it yourself too, hit up the Fender website, enter s/n's and model numbers and you can find out about specific production runs, materials, amount made, years of production...who knows, you may have valuable guitar on your hands!

Maybe give Opaww a PM, he's a bit of a music buff so he may have ideas too...
