Glad to meet another strange person like me. I'm up 7:00am every saturday and sunday, and out of the house by 8:00am.

You're schedule would kill me. How do you get any decent sleep?

When I'm home. Average 3.5 hours at a time.

I would die. And I think it's dangerous you guys work such a job where you have to be really alert and quick or you'll get injured or killed. It doesn't seem right. Who the heck can function safely on 3.5 hours sleep here and there?

Me lol. It's rough at first but you eventually get used to it but never fully adjust.

I work normally 1130-1730 then 2330-0530 or ride opposite watch which is 0530-1130 then 1730-2330. 6 hours off between, after chow, shower and contact with family on phone or Skype whatever you choose. Sleep is left. Wake up at 2245 or 1045.

I have worked the midnight shift and will be working that shift again real soon. I can easily sleep in the day. Granted, it's not for everyone but some of us really like the 'off' hours. I always say, "There's a place for everyone in this world." I've found mine on the midnight shift. I also get several hours sleep in a row. Kytowboater does NOT. His schedule is hellish.

See? This is a grueling schedule.

Hardest part is where I'm the second mate on the boat, is rotating watches mid hitch. If caught in tow work or something your shift doubles.

The most hated part is when I'm home. My body know the boat schedule and tries to force me into it. So after being up 6 hours I'm making coffee to stay awake, then I "wake up" after 6 more. Blah lol

I know what you mean. Days off for us midnight shifters can be confusing to our sleep schedules. My new job is 8 ten hour days of work then 6 days in a row off. Great for sleep and I'm looking forward to having two weeks of vacation, sort of, each month. I'm hoping to take a few long weekend road trips. I'm going to bug Balota first, I think. LOL Oklahoma has GOT to be more interesting than here where I live.
