I think it depends on the intent of the project? If the project is strickley to build something that is useful then I also think of it as a craft. If the intent is to build something that useful but also very special for what ever reason and beautiful then it is art. Here is a picture of my still unfinished hanging corner cabinet:

I think of it as much art as craft. The main wood used is heart pine from an abandoned plantation home. The floating panel in the door is cypress and the palmetto tree I carved on the door is Walnut. All of those woods and the image of the palmetto tree have historic significance in this area. Plus the pine itself is historically significant because it came from a plantation home. The joints and construction are historically accurate as well. For me this is as much art as craft.

I agree with Tluker. If it's a beautiful chest of drawers or curio cabinet, then I think of it as craftsmanship. If it's a sculpture made of wood, then art.

I have done work for churches , very rich people and it could be anything from
Carvings of the last super to huge Harley wing head boards for a bed , nudes to kitchens and other cabinets .

My company motto was , (if you can dream , I can make it so)..!

I,m no Michel Angelo , but I did make a living at it for 25 years , just my wife and I ran our business in the Naples and Port Royal area mainly , but also have pieces all over the eastern half of this here country

Strictly word of mouth , no web page , not even in the yellow pages , just word of mouth.!

Personally , I consider myself a creator , designer and builder.! No master artist ,
Craftsman , just (I CAN DO EET)..!

Out of curiosity, do you feel the same about singers, and prefer the term "musician"?
Well, I am neither, except in the shower, but I suppose both terms would be OK. I guess Winds has a point, woodcarving kinda creeps into the "art" category. Here are 2 of my recent projects, both Christmas presents for the wife this year.

T Luker, nice. Walnut is one of my favorites, and I am curious about Cypress, although I have never even seen any.

Well, then, you have to show up at a Shoot and Hoot or be in Oklahoma when I'm there or come to Illinois.
