Default Question about launching a rocket.

Hi there. On to the point. I have a question regarding RPG-s, more precisely, the rocket itself. All RPGs are basically tubes. I was wondering if it's possible to have an RPG that isn't tubic (tube) but simply a launch pad, kinda a catapult, which throws the rocket at certain distance, the rocket ignites and accelerates fast toward the target? The main point is pushing the rocket out of the 'barrel', out of the place where its attached without the help of the rocket itself. Simply like a punch on the rocket, a punch that makes rocket fly to the safe distance, lets say 2 meters forward, more or less, it ignites and goes for the target...

Thanks in advance,

Nenad

Default Tube Launch Missile

That was not a Midgetman. It was a MX Peacekeeper. I was the flight crew at Vandenberg AFB for that flight.

Default submarines

That is exactly how missiles are launched from submarines, compressed air catapults them in the air high enough and then the rocket ignites.

Don't try it at home.

So compressed air ha, thought of that but yet I wanted to ask. Here's my RPG.

So, it could work. A compressed air catapults the rocket forward enough not to burn the operator, ignites and rushes at the target. Ok, thanks everybody, I have no further questions.

Hahah...the thing is, I'm a concept artist, currently I'm designing weapons, all kinds of weapons, post-apo near future period - grenade launcher, sniper, shotgun, pistol, machine gun, few AR-s, submachine gun, and RPG as well. So, I wanted to create an RPG that isn't tubic but something different.

So, any suggestions are welcomed. As it isn't tubic, you have to think of other ways to push the rocket out to the safe distance. Compressed air as some suggested. I like it. It could work...

Gee- that is a great idea. I'll bet they could make something like that. If they did, do you suppose it might look like this?

PIAT: Information from Answers.com

BTW- the RPG uses a small ejecting charge- the rocket motor (nozzles are near the front for the rocket) does not ignite until it is well out in front of you.
