Default Purchasing Dilemma

Okay so this is a loaded question but I just wanted to hear some of my fellow gunsmans opinions. I have roughly $900 to spend on a new firearm. I have been constantly debating on what I should buy. I have pretty of rifles and shotguns so I am not really interested in those. However, I have been looking at buying a glock 9mm, Xdm 9mm, or Ruger Sr1911 (since I don't have any auto handguns, only revolvers right now), a Ruger Blackhawk hunter 44mag (I don't really need one I just love that gun and the 44 mag cal), or a AR-15 (don't know what I would do with this beside shot at a range but I think they are really sweet!). So if you guys had an option and based on the limit information I provided you, what would you purchase? And please don't tell me to purchase all of them! That thought has crossed my mind several times but the thought of my wife using one of them to shoot me has always followed!

if you dont have an AR yet i think you should get one. definitaly fun to play with.. and could possibly be banned again.

the sr1911 is hard to find... at least around me.

go with the xdm9. ive heard they are great. i have the XD 40 and love it.

jcd,

I assume you already have a favorite revolver to carry for Concealed Carry. So certainly nothing wrong with carrying a snubby or other revolver for that. I would say you might really enjoy an AR Rifle. They are great to shoot, accurate and you can add the sky to them as time goes on regarding accessories. And being in Louisiana you have a lot of nutrias down there that are fun to shoot and other varmints! That would be my thoughts. You could also build your own. You could build a Cadillac AR for $900.

How much truth is there to that? I looked into building one, but by the time I added all the parts and tools I would need, I found it cheaper to buy one completely built. Just curious.

Also, what Lower unit would you recommend?

you have to be patient, and wait for sale prices. like black friday or other holiday sales, search for free shipping coupons or other discounts. also contact all your LGS to find who will have the best transfer fee's

I would just buy an AR and get it over with. With $900 you can get a S&W, you are only $100 short of getting a Colt at Walmart.

When you buy the gun apply for a walmart card. you get a discount and a shiny new card to pay whatever you are short interest free for 6 months.

Well, I think I know what to get after hearing the news about the shooting in Oregon. I have a feeling the AR-15 is about to get some negative press so might as well pick one up while they are still available.

Of the choices you listed the XD-M would be first pick, however I would look at a Smith and Wesson M&P.

Never really thought about the SW M&P, I might have to look into that.
