I'm German, and for 32 years I was saying my last name until some Germans told me the proper pronunciation. In not even going to start with firearms.

How about Heckler and Koch? That's the only one I'm not sure about.

Garand was French Canadian the family pronounced it "gaerrend" to this day. It sounds like Ga errends. I just say Gha rand.

Being as it is a German name you have to say it with a bit of anger in your voice, just short of spitting when you bark it out in two gutteral syllables but the syllables must be nearly indistinguishable- it helps if you have a smoker's voice. (note here, there are very few words in the German language that do not have multiple syllables, and they have some multi-multi syllable words to make up for those.) So it is a combination of "sour" and "sawyer".

Exactly! Except the Governator is Austrian, not German.

Same thing. Lol

I knew that, but I just love his goofy speech impediment and accent combo. Beats anything Germ.

One of my best buds is Austrian and screams at me anytime I compare the two, so I get my jollies anytime I get the chance, even if he doesn't get the benefit of hearing it. I'll be sure to tell him.
