Default Propane

Dam!!!! Anyone else priced it lately.
I have a gas fire place that I use to back up the central heat unit and when it is real cold we use it as well. Long story short because it is primarily a back up I only have a 250 gallon tank. Called today to get the tank filled and they said they are only delivering a 100 gallons per customer because the price is so high. I asked how much and they said it is almost 4 dollars a gallon. Been paying 2.50. WTH?????

I have been hearing the same thing here in New Mexico, propane prices are going to spike based on shortage of propane. The demand is super high and the supply is low!

Not surprised, this is the coldest winter since the global warming became official. We are pumping more natural gas than ever, BTW.

Pulled from another forum on the propane issue!

http://www.thetreeofliberty.com/vb/showthread.php?t=194545

Quote:
I paid $2.50/gallon two days ago, and was GLAD to get it. He dropped off 380 gallons because the tank was REAL low after a month of -20 weather. The last fill was 3/1/13, so this will get us through to summer easily.

But was danged lucky he gave me ALL that was on the truck, because around here the suppliers have been limiting deliveries to 200 gallons because of the shortage. Here is the statement to customers on their website:

"Propane Shortage In Full Affect - December 30, 2013

Lakes Gas Co. and the entire Midwest is experiencing an unprecedented situation in propane supply at the present time. Several factors have contributed to the current crisis:

1-) We experienced a greater-than-predicted consumption of propane during the grain drying season.

2-) It was an early season with a longer-than-normal cold spell.

3-) The Cochin pipeline, one of our major suppliers that provides propane from Canadian refineries, was shut down.

4-) There were railroad delays in getting contracted propane rail cars to our rail facilities. Currently there are approximately 90 cars behind.

These factors all contributed to the current shortage of product that we’re experiencing. In order to continue providing propane to our customers, we are short-filling customer tanks to make sure we have enough to go around. In addition, we are limiting all non-essential deliveries, such as those for garage heat and dispenser operations, among others. During this supply crunch, Lakes Gas Co. is focusing on residential heat accounts as our priority delivery.

We request your understanding during this situation. As always, Lakes Gas Co. will continue to put the customer first, and we’ll strive to keep delivering sufficient propane to keep you and your family warm during these cold winter days of short supply."

FYI - propane is not the same as natural gas, it is a petroleum distillate, not the stuff they're fracking for.

the price of propane varies a huge amount in different locations in the USA. I believe propane is a by-product of oil refining.

We have a 30 gallon/100# tank for our fireplace. Just filled yesterday - Wednesday. 25.1 gallons was $85.00. We get ours filled at U-Haul - they have a volume discount and we usually have our 2 sons - another 25 gallons each. We take our tanks so there is no delivery charge.
