I'd rather my own son see me die on my feet as a free man, than watch him go, broken, into slavery.

Dont'cha just hate it when that happens? A buddy of mine got lost for 12 years. I mean to say, the Marine Corps had him listed as having been discharged straight from boot camp with a medical. He reenlisted twice, was drawing pay and benefits, had been overseas, 2 purple hearts and a chest salad like you wouldn't believe, but when he got ready to go home for good, they told him he never graduated boot camp. He had also been promoted to E-7 during his time in.
Me, pretty simple, did my 4 and some change, got out. Camp LeJeune, NC, 1st battalion, 6th regiment, A co. Operation Mountain Storm 2004 as TF Linebacker, and hell if I even know what that goat rope in Iraq was all about in 2005...I sometimes still wonder if it was just a bad dream, but there's scars that say it was real. Decided my son needed a Daddy more than Daddy's life insurance money, so finished out my short time with PMO aboard LeJeune, and then Weapons Training Battalion Stone Bay.

jackrich3: I hitched a ride from Hunters' Point to Pearl Harbor on the Coral Sea as a civilian sub-contractor sometime in 1968, best I remember. She was en-route to points Far East. My assignment was to install a new video pilots de-briefing system and have it up, operational and signed off by the time we arrived in Pearl. Otherwise, I would become ships crew for the tour. I had that sucker up and running three days out!
Watched AirOps the rest of the time. VERY impressive!

Was treasure island in Philly? I talked to a retired chief yesterday and told him I just made HT3 and he said he originally came in as a HT and his A-school was in treasure island.
