My L3-L4 ruptured and was pushing on the nerve root that went down my left leg. They went in & did whatever they do to clear the nerve and I am much better. No pain shooting down the leg and I am able to walk almost normally again.

I owe you both an apology. I did not mean to get personal, and unfortunately I did.

I am passionate about real Christmas trees (as well as the other things I farm) and that sometimes gets in the way of my better judgement.

I did enjoy the pictures of y'all decorating the tree with your daughter. That is what great memories are made of.

It seems that the real tree/fake tree discussion is much like the Glock/1911 discussion for many people.

The tree you cut down dies after awhile, correct? I don't really care if the tree dies or not. So, you are saying that you are a serial killer of trees!!!!. Just messing with you, murderer!!
Actually, the way we do it you are just pruning the tree in much the same way that you would prune a fruit tree. It keeps it healthy, strong and productive which is our intention. Periodically we do have some trees die due to attrition and we will cut out the stump at the ground so that we can replant another seedling in its place. We have cut stumps that are over 2 feet in diameter and I have counted over 50 rings in some of those stumps. I know that some of them are over 60 years old though, as they were planted by my family back then.

I am personally responsible for the care and/or planting of around a quarter million trees in my life, and I continue to plant more every year. Currently I am focusing on chestnut trees (that is what I have in my nursery plots right now). That having been said you might ask if I am some sort of tree-hugger environmentalist and to that I would say no, I am much better than those pikers. As a farmer and hunter I care far more about the land and the things I grow on it than those unwashed hippie douchebags who sit up in trees on property they have no right to be on, protesting over intentions to cut them down. I have a direct connection with the health of my trees, more so than those idiots who merely love them because they are beautiful and majestic. I have no problem cutting a tree down to use as lumber to build my home or whatever, or to use a paper bag to bag my groceries. In both cases it is a more environmentally responsible choice to do so than to use plastics in my opinion. Wood is renewable and biodegradable, both not true of plastics. Around here nearly all of the real trees that are used to celebrate Christmas are recycled into mulch after the Christmas season. This may not be so where you live so YMMV.

Now, having said all of that, I do own a few Glocks and maybe a black rifle while I do not own a 1911. Yet.

I grew up with live trees. I prefer them, the smell everything about them. Last time I remember having a live tree I was little. Dad bought one last year for the first time since I was 8 that I can remember. Poor folks do what ya gotta do. For the longest time we had a 3 foot tall fake spinning tree. It was around $10.

My wife and I have a fake 6' tree we bought for $20. When we buy a house, we WILL have a real tree.
