I'd rather my own son see me die on my feet as a free man, than watch him go, broken, into slavery.

I got so excited that I found this! Then I took a closer look at the receiver...

I will not comply. I will not lie down. I will not go quietly. I will not submit. I will not roll over. I will not shut up.

I have a vague recollection of using one once or twice.

Ha! This is a valid point. I remember one of my uncles owned some. Always collecting the change from them.

When I was in high school I was out 4-wheeling one night and got badly stuck, so i was walking into town (about 6 miles) and stopped at a pay phone by the side of the road. I put in a coin and tried to dial but it didn't register my coin. I put in another coin and the same thing happened, I flipped the coin return lever and nothing came out. So I dialed the operator and told her that I needed to make a call, etc., she said I could either make a collect call or some such BS but at 3:00 AM I wasn't going to get anyone to accept charges, so I told her that if she didn't get me my money back I was going to beat the crap out of the phone . She said that I couldn't do that because it was against the law or some other BS, so I told her to stay on the line and listen while I effed up the damned phone, so I set the receiver down and climbed up and kicked the living crap out of it. On about the third kick, the receiver broke and the dang thing started spilling out coins like a slot machine. I think I picked up like $10 in coins off of the ground (all I could see in the dark). The phone was busted when I tried to tell the operator off again. So I continued on into town and the first phone I came to I called the operator (different one) and told her what had just happened, then laughed and hung up.
Good times!
