Actually was able to go into central office in Shanghai but was not allowed to take pics. Although most of these cities are plumbed with fiber there is some copper. The fiber nodes and RT's are not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but are not terribly bad. However, the jumper work for copper in the C.O.'s is horrid the tip cables in the verticles are unsupported and just hanging by the pairs to the blocks and I don't think they know what bonding is.
I took my can wrench on the trip and couldn't resist opening the back of a copper SAI (service network interface also known as "bee box" ) one late night outside of resort area in alley to see what their splicing work looked like. Inside it was total tangle monster crap. All I can say is that my 2 Y.O. grandson could have done a better job.
