I had a heat shield like that for my 870... annoyed the crap out of me. Ended up tossing it. Looked cool for a time, but...

what about it bothered you? i haven't gotten much chance to fire this one yet since i recently got it, but I have shot identical ones w/out the heat shield.

and also is it normal to have a lot of play in the fore grip (from left to right) instead of a tight grip?

There was a little distance between it and the barrel, and it was very thin... when I would be putting the gun away sometimes it would slide along my fingers and cut me, and it seemed kinda flimsy. Yours might be better. Mine was aftermarket. The 870 doesn't come from the factory with it. This was before the Clinton AWB. I think they outlawed those for a while as part of his AWB.

If you're talking about the charging handle grip, then yeah, it does have a little wiggle. That's normal. Doesn't feel right. I got one of those, too, and ended up swapping for a tubular handle.

Keep the stock on. It's more shootable that way, screw looks.

Also, finger off the trigger, even if its unloaded. I know, knitpicking.

I hate to tell y'all this but if you have a GOOD quality holster that will go over the back of the slide, and completely covers the trigger guard snuggly, then you are a fool to carry it w the hammer down on a 1911. I know bc carrying my Nightmare hammer back saved my teammates life. I ALWAYS carry mine that way. I have even when I carried my dual colt gcsm in dual shoulder holsters.

On a pump it always seems like there is play..... The grip just makes it more noticeable

Please pay attention to the conversation I was not advising that he carry with the hammer forward. I was picking just like Primer was.
