Apparently not too old for you, so that's good enough.

And sometimes, depending on what you're driving and the actual cost of diesel, per mile it is still cheaper to run a diesel engine than gas.

My friend's minivan gets 21mpg. Hauling 20,000 on my trailer I got 19 the other day (on the highway only).

Another example:
Ex and I had a 2005 pt cruiser that got about 15mpg.
My step Dad got a 2006 F250 with a six speed. It got 22mpg.

It was cheaper to ride around in his truck, even just knocking around town.

You are completely correct. Now is a 7200 pound truck going to be able to get the same milage as a tiny civic? Nope, not going to happen.
But.

If I keep that Cummins between 1600 and 1700 RPM I can see around 23 to 24 on the highway (Ive heard of people that drive 2500s that get between 26 and 28). Sasha had a 2010 GMC 1500. Even being careful with her right foot she never saw better than an average of 20 on the highway. Diesel may be more expensive, but there is more energy per unit than gas.

And towing will kill your fuel mileage in a gas engine but doesn't have as much of an affect on a diesel. my little v6 gets 19 on a good day.

Trip is younger than you I just have to tease him about being old.

Here's a little gift called Electro-Shock Therapy that was the 22nd obstacle of the 2012 Tough Mudder.

10,000 volts (no amps) and every string that you see has a 50/50 shot of being hot as the voltage fluxuates between strands across the top of the wooden frame.

Can't tell you how many people got hit and went out cold only to get up face down in the cold muddy water....LOL
