Expand your welding skills. Get certs in pipe, stainless, etc. It will never hurt and you can get a better job.

If you can get all your TIG certs you can basically write your own ticket.

Or go become a CWI. You will never be short of work. Then there is also getting certified on pressure vessels. In the midwest there are only a few hundred or so of us that have it and are in high demand. But there is a lot of travel required. Much more travel than I am willing to endure anymore. Which is why Im working in a factory at a wage much lower than my skillset.

I have ALL the certs except underwater and no one will hire me for a welding job. That was my main MOS in the Corps. They all tell me I don't have enough "professional work experience"

That doesn't sound right. How much actual time did you spend welding while you were in the Corps? Which school is it that you went to for the Corps? NADEP welding course? I was looking at the course outline and it is pretty sparse.

If you don't mind my asking. Where do ya live?

Don't get me wrong. I am not trying to take anything away from you. Thank you for doing what ya did. Im just trying to draw a bead on what experience you have.

I used to.
I actually made the commute on the boat. Put on my drawers and shirt and I was at work.
