I prefer a 16 to 20lb hammer, work limits is to
8 lb hammers. I keep breaking the damn handles. I use them one handed most times to keep from doing so. They have been sending us Fiberglass handled ones. They hold up a lot better. Heads don't fly off or snap the handles off as often. Just more expensive.

Take a 12 lb hammer with a 4' handle. Grab the handle at the very end, extend your arm parallel to the ground, lower hammer to your nose using your wrist/forearm
Muscle while keeping arm complete straight, then raise the hammer back to the vertical position.

My 4 foot one has a plastic handle. I like wood better.

My handle is plastic drilled out, with a 3/4 inch Allen bolt pushed through, threaded into the brass.

I've broken more off than I can count. I still prefer them though.
