Fathead dropped his but luckily the cracks are only on the bottom. Apple said they don't replace glass and that he'd have to buy a new phone. Needless to say, he will just have a cracked phone.....

You can replace the glass/screen for about $40 on eBay.

We have places around here that will replace them for you for like $60. Only takes them an hour to do it.

Why do they use glass? Couldn't they use something that won't crack the first time you drop it? I know there's stuff out there like that.

It's called Gorilla glass. Awesome stuff. I think glass responds better but I'm not sure...

The gorilla glass was in my old Motorola. It responded fine, I just had to change carriers. My Motorola was rattling around in my pocket with spare change, car keys, pocket knife... Never got a scratch.

Never attempted it. But I'm OCD careful with my phone too. Of course now it will get hit by a meteor or something...

The iphones are super fragile, the screen and entire back is glass. I bought the 3g when they first came out, i didnt have it 3 days and i accidentally dropped it while checking pressure in my tires, shattered the screen. They are like carrying an egg around, one small slip and they bust.
