This was sent to my husband and I from a friend in Alaska who has passed away.
This is a Sheefish lure. It was carved by Tim Henry from the village of Kiana, which is along the Kobuk River. It's made from ivory and the dots and leader are of whale baleen. This style of lure was used by the Kuuvangmiit (Kobuk River People) for centuries.
