You know, the guy gets a lot of flack in cyber space about his attitude and everything, but he was really cool in person. I even f'ed up the first picture and had to go back to him to get another. He knew right away what happened and was more than happy to pose again. I admit, he was never my favorite fighter, but I always knew when he was on the card, I was going to get a fight that would be enjoyable.
His fight against Thiago Alvez wasn't his best effort, but Thiago was above the weight limit and Hughes agreed to take the fight anyways. Some will say 4 pounds doesn't make a difference, but cutting that extra four pounds of weight makes a hell of a difference in your spirit and your recovery.
That said, Alvez is on his way up and Hughes might be on his way out.
