Just picked up a good ole Remington 870 express, very impressed with the bead sighting.

And FYI guys, the round in the chamber is not a live round. I am aware of firearm safety and respect it to the fullest.

Man my 870 has one in the tube at all times. It just chills on a chair in my room.

I'm more concerned with how the shell elevator is in the position it is if the shell is in the chamber. Shouldn't it be on the elevator? Like in my avatar?

Haha I will not deny that my home defense systems are always hot and very much live, but to answer your question I keep the bolt open and prop the elevator up to keep the round from falling out. My safety is off at night so my girlfriend isn't comfortable with the round attached to the bolt so I leave it that way. My brother, whom is a marine asked me the same question lol.

Man, I'm going to do that! Pretty smart. I had been keeping mine with birdshot in the chamber, but I rather like your system. Means I can go all slugs.

I'm glad you posted that. I learned something new about my 870. I thought I had it figure all out.

Well thank you, and I had rifled slugs but dumped those today, working with the little bit of birdshot I got left. Do you know how to take the original stock off? I am completely stumped I had it field stripped save for the stock and cannot figure it out!

Try this. You dont need that wrench though. Just improvise.
