Propulsion? Big ass diesels with huge gear boxes hooked to big wheels or props. Normally around 110" iirc.

I would call that a flat bottom, at least compared to the towboats I have seen in the SF Bay. Also, their propulsion is through these cool "pods" that can rotate 360 degrees and are independently steerable. Really cool systems. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voith_Schneider_Propeller

Clear Lake, Texas, and thank you for the compliment. This was just before the annual Christmas boat parade in 2004. It was a pleasant 75 degrees. A week later, we had the first white Christmas in 20 years. Go figure!
