The .22lr would be much easier to control, with much more ammo for insurance. A home invasion isn't going to make me comfortable in the first place, so the 12 gauge isn't my first choice if I have a choice, but it is a choice

I have some background on shooting intruders. With my shotgun loaded with 1 OO buck I'm shooting 9 .32 cal bullets at one time multiplied by 5 shells or more in the gun. Someone can take multiple hits with a 22 cal and continue to fight unless you are one hell of a shot, but 1- OO buckshot will stop the fight. so choosing a shotgun just might be a lifesaving choice.

Me and my streetsweeper/ door clearer 12ga w/OO buck in Mogadishu.

I have a really nice Browning Buckmark, but every once in a while a 22lr rimfire will not fire, leaving the gun unless until you manually rack the slide, clearing a round, and then chambering another round back in. (hoping this one won't also 'misfire'. I would hate to have to think about that in a stressful situation .

I once had someone at 2 in the morning trying to unlock my deadbolt. And as I sat there crouched in the corner waiting for the door to burst open, with my 40 S&W in my hands trained on the door, all I remember thinking was that I wished I had my shotgun.

I'd feel nice and comfy with a .40, myself. Not interested in doing much damage to my house though, just to the person that shouldn't be in there. I've never had misfire problems with my 10/22, and rarely a jam (even with my butler creeks, I guess I lucked out with them, everyone else seems to hate them even with steel feeding lips), but if I'm really feeling bossy, there's always 20 rounds of .308 waiting for me. Lol
