Crazy looking tank barge. The black one is not part of the gray. Two individual barges.

Went to the volunteer firefighter's barbecue today. They had an air ambulance come in so people could check it out. Pretty exciting watching it land and all- once they shut it down they signalled that we could approach and a swarm of kids went sprinting over to check it out. That was as much fun to watch as the helicopter landing!. They also did a demonstration of a vehicle extraction with the Jaws of Life which were purchased through funds raised by past barbecues. This is a rural VFD that serves a very dangerous stretch of highway through the mountains, so having this equipment benefits many other people outside of our mountain community. Anyhow, here are some pics-

I saw lifeflight land when a biker tried to pass a car while going over an overpass. I saw the bike go over the top about 300 yards in front of me, when I came over the top there was already three people tending to him. I took control of the situation, barking orders for traffic control and first aid. Nobody else seemed to know what to do. I never saw the jaws in action.

My uncle sold his motorcycle when he started his current job, he sells surgical hardware, titanium screws and plates and rods and such. He actually goes into the surgery and helps the doctors get the right hardware.

Here's my little niece and my dog. She knows the dog's name better than anyone else's.

A buddy of mine is a nuerosurgeon who recently retired due to health reasons but he is still working as much as he can as a consultant to medical device manufacturers (there are tons of them located around here). These companies are beating down his door because many of them do not have any doctors who have actually done many of the surgeries that their devices are designed for working with the engineers. The result is a device that is not quite what the doctors or patients need. I can see where having the hardware guy right there in the OR would be a big asset, he can go back to the shop and modify a current design to make it more ergonomic or whatever to improve the product line.
