Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't read your post completely. I thought you were asking how he released the squirrel. The skunk.....oh, yeah, releasing the skunk. It went like this......
I called my sister for advice and she recommended throwing the whole cage in a 55 gallon drum and drowning it. I said I wouldn't do that. She said if they don't see you, they won't spray. So I got a blanket and held it in front of me while I approached the cage. So far, so good. I placed the blanket over the cage and began to try to open the door and latch it open through the blanket without being able to see what I was doing. All the while my oldest son (who was about 11) was video taping it. Little did I know he was zooming in on my fat butt while I was bending over.
The skunk didn't like me rattling around trying to get the door open and latched and sure enough, he sprayed. The stench was UNBELIEVABLE
. I don't know if any of you smelled skunk spray that close up and fresh. I was gagging and choking and nearly vomiting. I finally got the door open and latched and pulled the blanket away from the door and stepped back. It waddled out and ran under my shed. I took the blanket off the cage and threw it on the burn pile and lit it. I don't think I ever set the trap again.
Most often we'd catch raccoons, opossums and sometimes our own cats.
