How did you release it?

Ummm..........you open the door and step back. They run out.

When you're messing with the door they are afraid of you so they stay plastered to the back of the cage.

Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't read your post completely. I thought you were asking how he released the squirrel. The skunk.....oh, yeah, releasing the skunk. It went like this......

I called my sister for advice and she recommended throwing the whole cage in a 55 gallon drum and drowning it. I said I wouldn't do that. She said if they don't see you, they won't spray. So I got a blanket and held it in front of me while I approached the cage. So far, so good. I placed the blanket over the cage and began to try to open the door and latch it open through the blanket without being able to see what I was doing. All the while my oldest son (who was about 11) was video taping it. Little did I know he was zooming in on my fat butt while I was bending over. The skunk didn't like me rattling around trying to get the door open and latched and sure enough, he sprayed. The stench was UNBELIEVABLE. I don't know if any of you smelled skunk spray that close up and fresh. I was gagging and choking and nearly vomiting. I finally got the door open and latched and pulled the blanket away from the door and stepped back. It waddled out and ran under my shed. I took the blanket off the cage and threw it on the burn pile and lit it. I don't think I ever set the trap again.

Most often we'd catch raccoons, opossums and sometimes our own cats.

You think skunk spray is a mist or cloud of fine liquid droplets. Hollywood lied! It's a stream of gel that sticks and won't come off. Washing only smears it around. And every time it is disturbed, it releases more odor.
