Uh... I hate to point it out, as I'm sure someone will try to say that I'm in favor of gun control... But to be fair, at least a couple of those simple "cow pokes" shouldn't have even been free men, and wouldn't have been if strong arm thuggery hadn't been used to scare people away from prosecuting them.

It has been alleged that the Earps were thugs too. When I was in Tombstone a few years ago they had a reenactment that showed the Clanton side of it more or less. At least it opened up some questions about the whole event.

Not one of then was without sin. I did a school report on Wyatt Earp, and yes, he'd been involved in some wild stuff, as had Virgil. Gambling, brawling, some accusations of murder and rustling (some think that's the reason they went to Arizona).

The Clantons are NOT some kind of Heroes though. They were every bit the thugs that the Earps were accused of being, and likely even more.

Doc Holiday? Good ol' boys politics at their freaking finest. He was a thief, and accused rapist and murderer.

The truth is, the Earps drew the longer stick.

They banned guns in town (as to "Doc" doing that, some reports say he hadn't even arrived yet, contrary to the notion that he was there first. Some say he wasn't even involved in the corral shootout, but it's overwhelmingly reported that he was). Any way, they banned guns in town mostly because of the things the Clantons were being accused of that no one would testify on. Then, lo and behold, they are the very ones who forced their hand.

Sorry. Banning guns is wrong, we all know that. But forcing a confrontation even with corrupt law enforcement is wrong too (Dorner, anyone?).

But guess what? They banned guns, and the Clantons were the only ones who openly defied the ban. Gun crime did not drop. But it did after the shootout.

Just goes to show the only true crime control is criminal control.

Default Oh... my gawd.... he's gotta gun!

Found this in a Bisbee Arizona Antique shop.....

Looked like an armed school crossing guard was ok, back when we didn't have all these problems.
