The vacuum assist (when engine is running) could be enough to allow fluid to by-pass in the cylinder.

To test when the engine is off, grab a 2X4 and brace it against the brake pedal after you pump it a couple of times. Let it stay in place for a couple of hours, and if it has lost pressure, I would suspect master cylinder or a pin hole leak in a line.

I'm going to autozone today, they have a rebuilt master cylinder for 17 dollars, so if its not that I won't take too hard of a hit to the wallet. Ill let you guys know what happens

bench bleed the master cylinder before you mount it. it will save you a lot of time and aggravation.

Why? Surely even the most incompetent autozone employee shouldnt have much trouble with a Master cylinder for a Ford? (I assume its the truck in the pic?)

I would have guessed master cylinder bleeding by. That is what it sounds like from your discription of the problem. For $17 you can hardly rebuild one for that. I would just go buy it. But you definately should bleed it before you put it in.

They aren't the ones that rebuild it, they have it sent in from their parts guy. Speaking of incompetent I asked one of them for a 9/16 wrench to take off the old nut where the lines tap in and he asked me if I wanted metric or standard!!! Come on dude!!!
