I can see where the linkage comes in between the three. If you drove a Vehicle in the Military into anywhere that was considered tactical, the orientation of the vehicle to your egress was a task that had conditions and standards for a reason or 4. Most that drive tactical vehicles in the military are males and most of us never stopped doing what we learned way back when.

Your greatly advantaged when parking because your observation of the surrounding area is fresh and current, not so much when your leaving, especially if your in a hurry. Drives me nuts when I see our University Chemical/ Safety response Vehicle parked nose first in their parking spot. Usually when an Emergency happens, backing up into traffic isn't something you should want to do ever!

There are reasons for purposeful placement and while they may seem anal, they prevent accidents and save lives according to the purpose you are driving a vehicle to begin with.

As a Police Emergency Driving Instructor and Certified Accident Reconstructionist I have learned it takes your brain about 25 minutes to fuly engage in "driving mode". Backing is one of the more difficult and hazardous tasks one can perform in a motor vehicle. Always perform the difficult task at the END of the trip, when your brain is more able to do it efficiently.
Interesting reasoning. I may have to reconsider my habit of pulling in.

My driveway has a pretty sharp angle at the curb line and my front end (small FWD car) tends to bottom out when I back in and pull out onto the street. But I may be able to avoid bottoming out by crossing the curb line at an angle and then turn to straighten in the driveway. I'll try it and see if I can avoid the scrape.

This is exactly true. In a store or mall parking lot, it is much safer for everyone for you to pull out rather than back out.
