How many water balloons does it take to stop a .44 magnum bullet?

Believe it or not, I guessed 4-5 assuming they were using a hollow point. A flat nose might go a little deeper, if they did use a hollow point. Even the brand of hollow point can make a difference, a rapidly expanding HP will penetrate less, which most of us know here.

Now if someone could just gather lots of different .22 lr loads and shoot them into water...

I was waiting for them to tell us what type of bullet. Of course, they never did prior to the shot. I'm still surprised that it was only 4 balloons.

Trying it with a milsurp 30-06 fmj would be fun. Or a 7.62x54R.

Several years ago the mythbusters tested how far under water you would have to be to be safe from a bullet5 fired into the water from above. This is the .50 BMG test.

http://video.search.yahoo.com/video/play;_ylt=AwrTccOnJe1URkAADQsPxQt.;_ylu=X3oDMTB0Mz kwOG5yBHNlYwNzYwRjb2xvA2dxMQR2dGlkA1lIUzAwNF8x?p=m ythbusters+how+far+will+a+bullet+kill+fired+into+w ater%2C+.50+cal+test&tnr=21

I kind of figured on 5 to six ballons myself, because of the tests done for this experiment. The slower the bullet, the deeper it went. the faster the bullet, the sooner it blew apart because water does not compress. There was another test where they fired a 9mm and a .30-06 into blocks of balistic Gel, and the 9 mm traveled further than the 06 did. the reason? The 06 round blew apart in the second block of gel.
