Many things I knew from prior experience owning sheltered dogs . I 61 years old
And the only time I didn't have a companion around was when in my adventurous years , 9 years to be exact . Yep , I pursued my bucket list ! Grand Canyon , the Redwoods , Niagara Falls , Tetons , bla , bla , bla , etc. .

When I got stable , bought a house , rooted ! Time for a companion .
Every dog I've brought from shelters or humane type places . Abused , moving ,
Renters , there are too many unwanted animals . In some cases , just plain stupidity , some don't realize the commitment of owning pets . Similar to adopting a child .

I've been taking him with me wherever I go . Leash and collier and have had no issues out in public . He's an easy student and learns amazingly fast , smart !

The only thing that seems to be taking time is with house breaking . I am changing some things as you have suggested .

Two weeks and one day , he's absolutely a different dog in so many positive way !

Thank you so much , such a huge help ! his name is Drake , a powerful mix and turning out to be sweet and wonderful companion !

Again , Thank you !
good for you Dango! he's coming around because he knows that someone cares about him now. he wants to please his master. IMO, animals will do all they can to please the master who loves them and cares for them. that is one way they show their love for us.

the other way is with wet sloppy kisses!

He cost us a ton up front, but in the same timespan has cost us A LOT less. He goes once a year for his checkup, an he's been maybe 3 times besides that. Point being, you don't know that shelter animal's history a lot of the time. I feel bad, because our sick cat is an awesome cat. Anyway...
I solute you for being human and compassionate enough to take care of your pets .

My last dog , a lab mix from a shelter was my shadow . I loved that dog ! May and July of this year , I noticed him not himself , lethargic and not the infinite puppy acting dog he had always been , nine years . First local vet , diagnosed a liver problem . They prescribed meds and one month later , back to the vet ! Tests done and they suggested a specialist .

I went there and it was a one week stay for my estranged adopted shadow !
Almost $4000 total to watch him die 9 days later !

They gave me an estimate cost between $1200 - $ 1800 ! Fact is , had I known ,
I would have put him down humanely myself !

Life is not fair , did those people have my dogs or my personal interest in mind ?
NO ! Life goes on and it took awhile to get over it . I do have a new shadow . Seems risk takers have bit more interesting like than dreamers !

Yeah, that sucks. Vets are in the business to make money. I have had the feeling more than once with our cat....

IMO, it's harder to be a Vet than a doctor. animals can't tell the vet what they are feeling or exactly where it hurts or sometimes the symptoms that are having. not like a person can with their doctor.
