My daughter has a corn snake. I have a rainbow boa. Snakes are easy pets to have.

They are great pets! Like you said, no barking, they eat once every 5-14 days depening on age and species, poop maybe once a week (usually a few days after eating), you arent required to handle them, when handled they are quite a way to drum up conversations, etc, etc.

Snakes, well reptiles in general really, are very popular over in Europe. Not exactly sure why, but they are!

Rainbows are gorgeous and I'd love to have one, but I dont have the patience of 70%+ humidity.

I've had a couple of snakes. In college I had a ball python named Ralph; friendly but hard to feed, I found him a better home with someone who had recently had their LARGE iguana pass away. After grad school I had a beautiful Burmese python named Speck. Speck was a very eager feeder, sometimes a little too eager. When he passed 8.5' and started looking at my roommate's dog as a potential snack, I found him a better home with a guy who had seeeeveral smaller snakes (ball pythons, a boa, and a corn snake) and a caiman that was pettable.

I will never forget Speck's sense of humor. He once went semi-arboreal and dropped onto my shoulders from a door frame, the bathroom door frame thankfully. He LOVED to play hide-and-go-seek when he was freerange and I lived alone. I scared the crap out of a buddy once when I called to ask him to call 911 if he didn't hear back from me in a half hour; Speck had gotten confused during supper and was trying to swallow my arm. He never got past my wrist; he lost his appetite when I stuck my arm and him into the freezer. Speck was a trip with the ladies; once he started cooling off, he would frequently get reeeeeeally close with them. I had to unwind a few that he wasn't ready to disembark from; that lil bugger frequently took a shirt with him in the process.

I had a Agama during college who was also entertaining, but nothing comes close to the low-maintenance snake for a bachelor's pet.

That won't be an effective response; try spraying it with a fire extinguisher instead (cold).

Probably not effective much on bears either.

I hear tell there are lots of free pets in south FL.
It would be like "mustangin" only you'd have to call it "pythonin".
