Hmm guess there's that too.

I won't lie, I always found it a little stupid that you can't set "traps" through out your own house. I get the reasoning behind the law, but yeah, still seems just a hair on the stupid side of things.

Here’s a Radio Shack shopping list:

¼” metallic alarm tape for windows, some thin wire, a small box with a flashing red light or two. Maybe with a keypad or circular lock on it?

Assemble the above and place the box on top of a couple of printouts of ‘Security Today’ magazine, in a location visible from, but out of reach of, a window.

How do you know someone is snooping around your place while you're at work?

Rake the soil, or put fresh mulch by your windows to see if its human footprints or those pesky feral cats.

I think the idea of motion sensor lights has merit. They can be bought inexpensively, and all of a sudden being "spotlighted" when you're where you're not supposed to be can be extremely unsettling.

Or, play possum a couple of evenings, part the truck around the corner, and see what happens.

http://www.homedepot.com/s/smartphone%2520camera?NCNI-5

either the belkin or brite view. They are cheap and you can take your smartphone or tablet to work and via the free app monitor the camera so you can see if anyones snooping then you can call the cops and catch em in the act. These really inexpensive cameras have foiled tons of burglaries recently and are a good investment.

The main reasons for making booby traps illegal are:
1. If there is nobody in the house when a perp breaks in, then nobody has reason to fear for his/her life. Therefore no justification for deadly force.
2. Some innocent person (you) could be crippled, maimed, or killed by a booby trap that you forget to disarm before you enter the house.
