The debate did not start as a danger!danger! alarm. It keeps veering that way. My concern is Russia's intentions and aggressive behavior, not their hardware or training. I think its no good. We can compare the technology in another thread. Fact is, they are the only nuclear power than bleeps with us on a regular basis. Let's just see where it's all going. All your logic applies on the premise that they are not crazy. Let's hope they are not.

with both the Americans and the Russians having nuclear weapons that could destroy each other, a hundred times over, who really wants to push the big red button and start the entire destruction of the earth?

Russia has a strong aggressive leader. The Russian people are supporting their leaders. America has a very weak leader with declining support from the voters. Russia will rebuild it's empire. The World will watch in fear.

Define what a strong leader is.

What group of people in Russia is supportive of Putin?

In what way is Obama a weak leader? Is it because he has policies that you don't agree with or because he has permitted America to be attacked or more vulnerable to attacks? Have the Russians or any other group, nation state backed or otherwise, attacked America since 9/11 under Bush or Obama?

Who is watching Russia with fear, you or someone else? I'm not afraid of them. All the bravado and propaganda in the world isn't equivalent to actual combat capability and the Russians don't have an actual combat capability remotely approaching our own.

Do I trust Putin not to start a needless war? No more than I trust Obama not to start a needless war. If the Russia really wants to start a war with America of the non-nuclear variety, they'll quickly determine that their combat capabilities are lacking.

There is a difference. Obama does not run the country, people do. Putin can decide for the whole of Russia, for now.
