I've had L5-S1 fused. Now they want to fuse L3-L4.

I prefer the drunk and pain pill over another surgery.

sometimes you are at a point when surgery isn't an option, simply because it would provide no relief from the pain, offer no improvements and actually lose mobility and range of motion.

when even the neurosurgeons advise against surgery, and tell you it's not in your best interests, then it's bad.

McCool , sorry about that injury . You know I can relate . I still got more scrap value than you ..........

Get well soon brother and if you need pain pills , take them ! I tortured myself quitting them things against doctors advice . Be smart . If the doc says you need them , take them ! Don't be be foolish like I was . I suffered many days being stupid and stubborn and I didn't have to .

If I where have to go through that again , I WOULD TAKE THE PILLS ! What I did was stupid ! Yeah , I quit the pills way early and paid for it with sleepless nights and painful days , STUPID AND STUBBORN . I WON't do that again !

Only you know what you feel McCoolest , nobody else can know that so you do what you need to do . You and your doctor , that's what you do , stay functional even if it means pills for a while . I'm not proud of what I did , it was stupid !

The old saying goes ,"Walk a mile in my shoes" ! Get well my good friend and don't listen to anybody but your body and yourself and your Doctor !

Yeah, Dango's right as usual. Like Dan, I also have L5-S1 fused thanks to the crash. Better to dose off from meds and not be a danger to others or myself outside of home then try and do normal daily activities and risk further injury. With the back surgery is not always the best option.....

I don't mean to break the flow of good will toward McCool. But didn't he say never mind, the other night? May be not all that bad.

I saw the doctor today. His office will schedule my appointment with an anesthesiologist for an epidural. I didn't even know I was expecting. They will try three rounds of injections before resorting to surgery. It seems I am the only one concerned with timeliness.

i wish you luck and hope they do you some good.

i have had them several times over the years, but unfortunately, they did little to resolve any issues with my back or neck.

I haven't heard a success story yet. About the surgery or injections.

it will depend on the amount of damage, the area and each individual person.

if i had been in a more sedentary type career, vs. the active and strenous one i have been in for over 35 years, the injections might have been more beneficial than they were.

a lot may depend on what you can live with or without, as to whether surgery is worthwhile.

my stepmother started have back issues about 1977 or 1978 and had her first back surgery about the same time. since then she has about three more surgeries.

you might also look into laser back surgery as well to see if it's an option for you. it's less invasive, so recovery time is much shorter, and the success rates are much higher.
