fueleconomy.gov says it SHOULD get 16-17 mpg on the highway for that exact model, but It probably gets a little less. I don't remember what it gets in the city.

Since my car situation solved itself ( ), I'll probably wait awhile since I now have a car again. I will eventually get a truck like that though.

A buddy of mine used to have a truck much like that. 300 ci 6 cyl, manual, 1989 IIRC. It was a keeper, very durable. I think he ended up trading it in for something newer. For commuting I'd stick with something like a Focus ot the like. Gas is headed back up right now. If you NEED a truck, then by all means grab it. I'd try to talk them down some. $3500 isn't exactly horrible, but it is a 24 yo truck that wasn't exactly rare, there's room for negtiation.

Is it one of those annoying scooters that sounds like a pissed off weedeater and will only do 30 mph? There are way too many idiots out there on those that believe any size engine means they can get on the state highways or interstates.

I drive about 30 miles each way to work everyday and looked into getting a motorcycle or a bigger scooter but it would do me any good in the winter months, so I'm looking to get a small, beat up but reliable car.

Yeah that 6 cylinder while being a great long lasting engine is a gas hog. If you really want a truck look at the compact truck.

A couple years ago I bought a truck identical to the one you posted. Except the one I bought was red/white instead of blue/white. I didn't research it any thinking "hell, it's a 6 cyl. Can't be too hard on gas..."

Is it for work? Do you really need a 4X4?
I think used pick ups are way overpriced. That one should be about $1500.
If the mileage is correct, that's pretty low for it's age. Has the engine been changed? The 300/6cyl was a workhorse engine, but an old vehicle is an old vehicle. Everything is old. You'll be replacing parts piecemeal.
My '97 F150 has 185k on it and I have taken very good care of it. My yearly maintenance costs are still way less than what a payment on a newer one would be, but I've owned it for years and know everything about it. Buying such an old vehicle cold is risky. If you don't need a 4 wheel drive truck right now, walk away.

I bought a older truck 4x4 and the MPG =12!.Look for a smaller truck like a ranger or S-10 it wont kill you as much at the PUMP.
