Sonic as to your initial question in my opinion I like the Compass but I do think the Anchor takes away from it. Maybe if it was lighter?

IMO a good way to incorporate the anchor would be to make it large and appear behind the compass and have the compass re-touched or redone at the same time, or if you're set on having it small like the example you posted have the compass redone at the same time so everything looks the same age.

I waited almost a year before having one touched up and it took about 2.5 months to blend in fully, now you can't tell it was touched up.

I recently had a 1/4 sleeve done and won't be waiting too much longer before touch up. My artist gives one year for free touch up, I'd imagine after a year it's hard for it to blend w/o redoing the entire piece.
