I have read this and several others. They are indeed eye opening. Just as an aside, I went to college at Montreat, so I think it was more than it might have been otherwise to me. Recognizing a place makes it more real somehow.

I've read this book - I thought it was one of the better books of it's type that I've read.

I do have an electronic lock on my safe. Obviously more convenient than a dial, but opinions are mixed about whether it would survive an EMP event. There are some who think the circuits in a typical electronic lock might survive.

I have thought about putting together an EMP survival kit. Seems like you could put several small electronic items in a shielded and grounded box so they survive. Items I'm thinking about including would be an spare electronic lock, a couple handheld radios (2M and CB), maybe a few other items. If they weren't so expensive I'd think about and ECM for my truck.

I read it and really enjoyed it.
I live about 30 minutes from the setting and my hometown
was mentioned a couple times in the book.
