I would have a dog if I didn't work 12-14 hours a day. Way longer than the average dogs bladder is capable of. I can't stand to see a dog tied up outside 24/7. As a kid we always had dogs around, mostly muts that were dumped off on the dirt road we lived on. When I was 18 or 19 mom and dad took a 6 week vacation out west, we had a beautiful collie at the time. Mom was very attached to this dog.

About 3-4 weeks into their vacation I notice the dogs fur is very matted along his back and the area stinks badly. I took him to the vet who we had been using for years, it was cancer, very bad, the vet who knew mom very well and I agonized over putting him down or waiting until mom got home. He was in a lot of pain so in the end we didn't wait on mom. But I always have wondered in the back of my mind if we were too quick to put him down.

It will just be a homecoming for them... where do you think they came from in the first place.

That story reminds me of old black & white episode of Twilight Zone called The Hunt. It's about an old boy & his coon hound named rip. Kinda same story but different. I looked it up on YouTube if you want to watch it.
Thx 3tango for sharing the story i enjoyed reading it.
