I'm not sure how to address it just yet but my wife and I are going to take this thing head on.
I have to be honest. I'm scared as to what the effects of this could be on my future plans and how it could affect my CCP and application for LEO. I know God has a reason for this, I just wish I knew what it was.
My prayers are with you.

Folks, I'll ask that you add my son Brian to your prayer list. He's a 27 year old soldier that will be having back surgery in Hawaii next week to repair a bulging disk. I'm flying over on Sunday to be with him for this adventure...

He is in my prayers. I am originally from Hawaii and am currently serving. So, please let me know if I can help with anything.

Always Dave, both Brian and your family are in our thoughts and prayers, and wishing him a very successful and strong rehab follow-up and complete recovery.

Spittenfire, my brother, I'm been sober for nearly eighteen years and know what you are going through. When I attended my very first AA meeting, a very wise man told me that "I was lucky because I never had to drink again". He was so right, although, now I had to learn how to live.

Start working those steps like your life depends on it and ask your God for help. If I would have tried sobriety without God's help I would have surely screwed it up.

Not everyone that drinks is an alcoholic. I feel as I'm lucky to be an alcoholic because I got to witness one of God's miracles, my sobriety, I could not have done it without Him

I believe that God only wants us to be happy and you have to believe that this will make you stronger.

I'm pullin for ya. Your brother, Joe

No jokes but I found that spending all my money of things other than drinking helped me get off the bottle.

I woke up and drank 3 before pt 3 after pt and as many as I could at lunch then from the time I got home till I passed out I drank. I did that for a long time then moved stopped hanging out with people who drank all the time and spent $1000+ on a RC truck. IT kept me busy and kept me off the juice.

Thanks folks for the best wishes for Brian.

Spitty, this may sound like BS but accepting the fact that you need to control your drinking is a huge part of the solution. As an Irishman - I'm a genetic drunk and for years I didn't see getting plastered often as a problem. Once I realized that it was a problem - I took control and implemented 2 rules I never break:

1. I never drink when I'm alone
2. My limit for alcohol is 2 drinks - period

Good luck to you in getting & maintaining control...

Prayers for Brian, NGIB!!

Spitty, I hope you can get it controlled. You're in my thoughts, buddy!! A good first step in admitting there is a problem!
